　では、実際に食料品の税率が1％に引き下げられた場合、家計の負担はどの程度軽くなるのだろうか。酒井氏は世帯ごとの具体的な軽減効果を次のように試算する。

「だいたい夫婦2人と子ども1人の3人の世帯で考えると、年間6万円ぐらい1年間の支出の負担、税率が下がった分、家計の負担が軽減される効果が見込まれる」（酒井氏、以下同）

　しかし、税率が7％分下がったからといって、店頭価格がそのまま安くなるとは限らない。現在、中東情勢による資源高や円安の進行、さらに人件費の上昇などが重なり、企業のコスト負担は増えているためだ。酒井氏は、減税のタイミングで企業が一斉に「値上げ」に踏み切る可能性を指摘する。
