■常連さんが姿を見せない
ほぼ毎日、午前中には来店し買い物をして帰る常連客の60代男性が、ここ3日間ほど姿を見せていなかったのです。しかも、前に来店した時は、歩き方がいつもと違い、ろれつも回っていない様子だったため、小野寺さんたち店員が買い物袋を持って男性の家まで付き添っていました。「何かあったのかもしれない」小野寺さんと尾形さんは、シフト交代のタイミングで男性の家に向かいました。
常連客の男性宅は、コンビニエンスストアのすぐ近くにあります。インターホンを押しても応答はありません。さらに、郵便受けには、数日分の新聞が溜まっています。「嫌な予感がする…」小野寺さんたちはすぐに最寄りの交番に通報。ほどなくして警察官がかけつけます。その後、不動産会社の担当者が立ち合い警察官が自宅の中に入ったところ、部屋の中で意識がもうろうとした状態で倒れている男性を発見。すぐに救急車を呼び、駆け付けた救急隊が救命活動を行い、男性は一命を取り留めました。
