なぜ中国側がこのような行為を行ったのかと聞かれた橋下氏は「全ての原因は高市さんが国会で台湾有事のときに、米軍が助けに来てくれたときに中国から攻撃を受けたら、存立危機事態になりうるという発言。全てのスタートはそこなんですよ。法律的には存立危機自体になり得ます。これはもう間違いないんですけども、ただそれを対外的に国家の指導者が国会で言うかどうかってのは別の話です。高市さんの発言については、世論調査では半数以上の方が支持しています。僕も間違ってはいないと思うんですが、僕は言うべきではないという持論です、高市さんは、最終的に個別事案については言うべきでない、総合的に判断するという答弁に戻したんですけども、そうであれば言う必要なかったと思う」と指摘。
