　5月13日から負傷者リスト入りしている佐々木がふたたび、無期限ノースロー調整の状態にあり、痛み止め注射を打ったことを認めた指揮官は「彼が今季の長期的計画の一員にならないものとして話を進めなければならないか？」との質問に「そうだと思うし、それが妥当だと思う。彼がこの環境にいること自体、大きな挑戦だったし、そこに健康面の問題も加わってくる。彼は先発投手だから調整には時間もかかるし、やるべき準備も多い。そう考えると、それ（彼が今季いないとという前提で進める）は理にかなったやり方だと思う」と話した。
