　中日の春季キャンプを訪問した昨年2月23日に、車で移動中に那覇市内の交差点で交通事故の現場に遭遇。知人とともに、二輪車で事故に遭った男性の救助、交通整理や二輪車の移動などを行い、二次被害防止に努めた。

　与那城武署長から感謝状を受け取り「まさか自分が警察の方から表彰されるとは夢にも思っていないですし一番うれしいです。恐縮しております」と照れ笑い。事故に遭った男性からの手紙を署長が代読すると「大きな交差点だったんで、自分たちがひかれてしまう可能性もあったんですけど、大変なケガをされたのは見た目で分かりましたので、“何とかできないか”と思って必死で動きました。回復されたというのは本当にうれしいです」と安どの表情を浮かべた。
