背景には市教育委員会の予想を上回るペースでの児童数急増があり、見通しの甘さを指摘する声も出ている。
全国有数の「成長都市」ならではの悩みといえそうだ。
同市東区のアイランドシティ。2007年4月開校の照葉小と、19年4月開校の照葉北小が道路を挟んで並び立つ。
域内の宅地整備が進むにつれて人口が急増、児童数も増えたため新設されたのが北小だった。
ところが、児童増の勢いはなお続き、19年5月時点の両校の児童数は計1353人。
北小開校を決めた14年時の想定より約100人多く、北小開校からわずか半年超で分離新設が決まった。24年度にも、約300メートル離れた用地に3校目が開校する予定だ。
西区でも17年4月に開校した西都小の児童が急増し、翌18年に分離新設の方針が決定した。
現校舎が既に「容量オーバー」となった同小はプレハブ施設で代用しており、学習環境にも影響が出ている。
保護者や住民には「市教委の場当たり的な対応で地域が動揺している」と、批判や困惑が広がっている。
