『ミス日本』伝統の“水着審査”廃止 スポーツウェアに変更し「鍛錬の具合を審査」
女優の藤原紀香、タレントの叶美香らを輩出した『第53回ミス日本コンテスト2021』の最終審査が22日、都内で実施。今大会から伝統的に続いていた“水着審査”が廃止された。
「日本らしい美しさ」を掲げ、社会で活躍することを後押しする同コンテスト。現存する日本のコンテストでは最も古い歴史を持っており、女優だけでなく、芸術家、映画監督、政治家など分野を問わず多くの女性を輩出している。
第1回大会（1950年）は親善大使を決めるためのコンテストとして、水着審査が行われなかったものの、同時期の世界的ミスコン大会において水着審査がスタンダードだったことから、ミス日本でも伝統的に水着審査が採用されていた。
審査変更について運営サイドは「時代の流れとともにミス日本は、現在『社会での女性活躍を推進するコンテスト』としての役割が主となっております。この役割は、1950年第1回に近い形であり、多くの公的な活動機会に恵まれた存在です。こうした背景から水着審査を変更いたします」と説明している。
今大会から起用された“スポーツウェア審査”については「外見の美は、もちろん容貌容姿もありますが、それ以上にその人の“鍛錬”を指します。均整のとれたプロポーションは怠惰な生活をしていたのでは成し得ません。日々の積み重ね＝“鍛錬”の具合を審査する必要性に変わりはなく、それは水着ではなくスポーツウェアにて審査いたします」とした。
審査の内容・基準の「変更はない」とし、この日の最終審査に臨んだファイナリスト13人は、スポーツウェアを着用して健康的な美貌を振りまいていた。
