雄のひよこ殺処分禁止に　ドイツで２２年から

　【フランクフルト時事】養鶏業界で広く行われている雄のひよこの大量殺処分が、ドイツでは２０２２年から禁止されることになった。
卵を産まず、食肉としても劣るとされるため、採算面から日本を含む各国で業者による大量殺処分が常態化する中、「動物福祉の向上」の観点から禁止に踏み切るのは異例だ。

　独国内では毎年約４５００万羽の雄のひよこがふ化後すぐに殺処分されており、クレックナー食料・農業相は「倫理的に容認できない」と訴えた。
２２年以降は雄を成鳥になるまで育てるか、ふ化前に性別を判定して雄を処分する必要がある。

　さらに２４年からは、ふ化前のひよこが痛みを感じるのを防ぐため、産卵後の早い段階で殺処分する方法の導入が養鶏業者に求められる。
ドイツでは既に、レーザーで殻に小さな穴を開け受精卵内の液体を採取し、性別を調べる技術が開発されている。

　一方、養鶏業界からは新たなコスト負担でドイツの卵や鶏肉の価格が上昇し、欧州市場での競争力低下につながることを懸念する声も上がっている。
