「2人目の予定とかさ、夫の職業とか聞いてくる企業ってどう思う？そんなもんなのかな？」
30代の友人からのLINEに絶句した。2021年冬に出産した友人は現在、就職活動中。「2人目」とは第二子のことだ。
面接で妊娠出産の予定を聞く企業なんて、いまだにあるの？
嫌な記憶がよみがえった。大学卒業前の就活中、通信社の採用面接で、私も似たような体験をした。
「結婚して子どもを産んだ後も、仕事を続けますか」
そんなことを尋ねられるとは考えもせず、頭が真っ白になった。それでも、学生の立場であり“ジャッジされる側”だと感じていた私は、意欲をアピールしようと「続けます」などととっさに答えた気がする。
その質問をしたのは40～50代ほどに見える男性。女性幹部が少ないメディア業界では珍しくないが、その場にいた5～6人の面接官はいずれも同じ年齢層の男性たちだった。質問を制止する人はいなかった。
結婚や妊娠出産を前提としていること、女性の応募者にしか尋ねないだろうこと。
何気ない質問に含まれるバイアスと性差別的な意図を感じ、面接を終えた帰り道で怒りが込み上げたことを覚えている。瞬時に適応しようとした自分にも嫌気がさした。
