　子供時代の話で、佐藤は「僕はオタクでしたね。わかりやすい言葉で言うと」と回想。「作品にのめりこむ深度みたいなものが、人より深かったんだと思う。ゲームとかなんでも、そういうことにこだわる少年でしたね」と振り返った。

　だが佐藤は「小学校のときからオタクだったんですけど、オタクキャラではなかったんですよ」と言う。

「クラスの人気者たちとつるむんだけど、実は俺、漫画読んでいるほうが楽しいなって薄々思ってる。（オタクとして）ブイブイ言わせるタイプじゃなかった」と笑っていた。

　佐藤の話にSNSではさまざまな意見が寄せられた。

「佐藤さんは2016年9月17日放送の『王様のブランチ』（TBS系）で、自宅に1000冊を超える漫画があることを明かし、一押し作品として『ゴールデンカムイ』をあげていました。

　ちなみに、2020年1月23日放送の『櫻井・有吉THE夜会』（TBS系）では、中学時代に二次元のキャラクターに恋していたことを告白。

『女性に対する恋愛的なトキメキだとかはすべて二次元に向かっていました』と語り、なかでもお気に入りが『天使な小生意気』のヒロイン・天使恵だったそう。『初恋と言ってもいい』とはにかんでいました」（芸能ライター）
