日本製紙グループの日本東海インダストリアルペーパーサプライは、防水・防湿・耐油の性能を備えた段ボール原紙「防水ライナ」を開発した。

「防水ライナ」を使用した段ボールケースは、発泡スチロール容器と同様に、氷詰めした鮮魚の輸送が可能。また、折りたたむことでコンパクトになるため、使用の前後の保管スペースは87.5%も削減できるとしている。加えて発泡スチロール容器より外寸が小さくなるため、積載スペースは30%の削減が可能という。

使用後は古紙としてリサイクルが可能。発泡スチロール容器と比較して、石油由来原料は約96%削減可能になる。
