美の巨人たち　俵屋宗達・画、本阿弥光悦・書　重要文化財/鶴下絵三十六歌仙和歌巻

誕生400年を迎えた琳派の名品の数々を、4週にわたってお送りする第2弾!
今日の作品は、書の達人・本阿弥光悦と天才絵師・俵屋宗達の合作『鶴下絵三十六
歌仙和歌巻(つるしたえさんじゅうろっかせんわかかん)』。琳派はここから始まったと
言われる傑作です。長さ13mにも及ぶ巻物で、宗達が描いた無数の鶴の上に、光悦が
三十六歌仙の和歌を記しています。
光悦は宗達の類まれなる才能を見出し、決して出しゃばらない下絵に多くの書をしたためて
きました。ところが今回の作品では圧倒的に鶴の下絵が主張しています。その迫力に負けじと
琳派第一人者ならではの技量とセンスでたちむかった光悦。二人の天才がひとつの作品の
中で繰り広げた戦いの結末は?
