運転士が掛けていた眼鏡が壊れたためで、同電車は72分遅れで発車した。乗客約100人は午前8時20分発の後続の普通電車に乗り換えたという。
JR西によると、当該の電車の運転士は発車前、掛けていた眼鏡をふいて手入れしていたところ、壊れてしまい、掛けることができなくなってしまった。
電車の乗務員は1人しかおらず、裸眼では運転できないため、他の運転士を手配して交代したという。他の電車の運行には影響なかった。
