施設整備課によれば、北大では現在、老朽化したトイレの改修を進めている。構造上の欠陥が見つかったのは、札幌キャンパスの福利厚生会館（北部食堂）内にある男子トイレだった。
このトイレは10月1日に工事が終わり、4日ごろから利用できるようになったものの、通路から男子用便器が丸見えとなってしまった。
併設する女子トイレも、手洗い場の鏡を通じて中の様子が窺えてしまう恐れがあるという。
